Wizard's First Termer Scholarship
Anyone from the old guard of Broken Arrow Events remembers “Wizard” roaming around the basecamp or on the other end of the horn asking where you were. Fred Wachter was a mainstay at all BAE events from the begining of its formation until his last day on earth in 2023. He played the role as the stoic Lt. Colonel, but the issue with that was he was anything but! He’d probably would have preferred being in a squad bay with the joes, talking about farts and other naughty stuff. He did keep you guessing because a minute after he smoked you for doing dumb shit, he’d be joking with you to make you feel better about it.
Fred not only helped behind the scenes when BAE needed it, but he lent out a lot of gear he wasn’t able to utilize anymore since his health forced him to stop taking the field. In spirit of his generosity each year; here’s where the Wizard’s First Termer Scholarship comes into play. Every year the BAE Team will select one new guy that has registered for the big event in the summer. Then that First Termer will receive aid from Broken Arrow Events in the form of $50 worth of gear they may need. This could range anywhere from a pouch, helmet cover or even small things that the FNG may not have thought of.
The BAE Team reserves the right to choose what the First Termer Scholarship recipient will receive after talking with said party. Items will be delivered at the event as a small presentation. The winner will be selected in early June each year of the big event. Recipients will be contacted by the BAE Team to gauge what gear is needed.
How do to qualify? Well, the first thing you need to do is register for the big event taking place in August. If it’s your first time attending such an event produced by Broken Arrow Events then that’s it! You are in the pool of selectees that can be chosen by the BAE Team.
Can I make my chances better? BAE isn’t above bribes… joking! The truth is if you have been contacting Broken Arrow Events staff and asking questions about your kit, contributing on the Discord channel and putting those answers to work all the while, registering as early as possible, then yeah that would be taken into consideration simply because you will be remembered.
Can the $50 go towards something more than $50? Absolutley! We would still have to approve of the item this money may be going towards and it would be a judgement call on the BAE Team. The delivery at the event would still take place in the form of a rebate of the cost of $50. Another option would be for instance, requesting an item BAE could provide like Pike Brother’s Jungle Boots. We would put $50 towards the purchase of the boots acquired through us.
What if I think I have everything?! You probably don’t but if you are a guy that has everything and won this scholarship, then BAE didn’t select the right guy. But in that case, we have a care package prepared of BAE Merch that we will deliver the same way planned for any scholarship item.
