By late January 1968, the PAVN forces have been in position for a major offensive to take place on the 30th. The 173d, still recovering from Dak To were strung out along hundreds of miles along Route 19. One such stretch of this highway was the dangerous An Khe Pass, also known as Dragon’s Back.
